Exploring
Campbell Hall

As a new student, navigating Campbell Hall can be intimidating. However, this cheat sheet can help you become more comfortable by providing information about the various spaces within the A-school. Learn to orient yourself in Campbell Hall!

Lecture Halls

Location 

Campbell Hall has three lecture halls: 153, 158, and 160. These three rooms are all located at the eastern end of Campbell Hall's first floor. They are accessible from the Fine Arts Cafe, the North Terrace, and Bayly Drive.

Classes

The lecture halls in Campbell Hall are used for a variety of classes, including some unaffiliated with the School of Architecture. Courses such as Lessons in Making, Theories of Architecture, and Lessons of the Lawn require lecture-style learning occur in these spaces. The lecture halls are also occasionally used when all sections of a studio meet for a project introduction or lecture. 

Fun Fact

The School of Architecture holds many guest lectures and talks outside of typical class hours in these lecture halls. Be sure to keep an eye out for information and attend a lecture!

The STUDIO

Location 

Studios take up a majority of the third and fourth floors of Campbell Hall. Undergraduate desks can be found on the third floor, with hot desks located closest to the East Addition. Professor offices are located on the South side of the studio rooms. 

Classes

Beginning second year of undergraduate, students enrolled in a studio course will receive a desk space in the studio. This is where the studio course will meet, but students are able to work at their desks whenever they please! First year students have space to work at hot desks but are not assigned a specific desk space. 

Fun Fact

On a sunny day, the studio space is the most naturally lit space in Campbell Hall!

FAB LAB

Location 

The Fab Lab is located on the first floor of Campbell Hall, directly off the Naug. 

Classes

The fab lab is open to any students who complete the proper training provided on the A-School website. This space allows students to build and create models for a variety of classes in order to complete the required curriculum. 

Fun Fact

The Fab Lab also provides 3D printers in the fourth-floor studio space! These printers are free of charge!

THE 05s

Location 

The 05 classrooms are locatedin the East Addition including 205, 305, and 405. 

Classes

These spaces are often used for pin-ups and reviews for studio courses. They are also often used for discussion portions of lecture courses. The 05s serve as a great study space for a change of scenery!

Fun Fact

The 05s can be booked on 25 Live to ensure privacy for studying, meetings, or zoom calls!

Outdoor Classroom

Location 

The outdoor classroom is located on the South side of the second floor. It is accessible from the second-floor computer labs and the Western end of the second-floor hallway.  

Classes

This space is occasionally used for discussion sections and club meetings. During the spring, most students use this area as a place to enjoy the Charlottesville weather while getting work done!

Fun Fact

Stay outside long enough and you may witness the South facade of Campbell Hall shift with the moving sun!

The NAUG

Location 

This double-height space is located on the first floor of Campbell Hall on the Northern side of the building. 

Classes

This space is used for larger gatherings such as mid-reviews and final reviews. This space is also occasionally used for larger events such as guest speakers, career fairs, and exhibitions. 

Fun Fact

The Naug has a built-in shelf specifically design for displaying models that runs along the bottom of the wall!

North terrace

Location 

The North Terrace is located directly outside of the Naug!

Classes

This space sometimes holds discussion sections but is also used for larger gatherings. The annual Beaux Arts Ball takes place on the North Terrace. 

Fun Fact

Ask urban planning professor Tim Beatley how old the tree next to the North Terrace is!

FINE ARTS CAFE

Location 

The Fine Arts Cafe is located on the first floor of Campbell Hall, accessible from the North Terrace and the hallway containing the lecture halls. 

Fun Fact

The burritos and tacos at Fine Arts Cafe are some of the best on grounds!
